Framed in the center block is an embroidered elegant Godey lady who is obviously use to turning heads as she shows off the back of her Dresden plate skirt against a silk dupioni background. MARTHA PULLEN—EBONY AND IVORY HEIRLOOM QUILT
Oh, how this ebony and ivory linen blend quilt will play upon your heart-strings! Nine blocks with black backgrounds framed by ivory sashing resemble pages of a music manuscript and the entire quilt edge is finished with black binding. Five of the blocks feature heirloom sewing techniques and the remaining four blocks bring finely-tuned harmony to the entire quilt with their embroidered baskets and corners. The embroideries have all been stitched in shades of ivory and taupe which is absolutely striking against the black backgrounds. The center block has a lace shaped heart filled with rows and rows of lace insertion, baby rickrack and tatting. TECHNIQUE PURSE

Who would ever think that such a boldly colored, fashionable accessory could show off techniques and be functional at the same time? Pin-stitched shark’s teeth create an interesting block with dimension on one side of the linen blend purse and bias shaped trim creates a stem and leaves that draw the eye to a free standing applique’ flower that has gimp work edging. A ribbon rosette and flower button brings depth and texture to the applique’d flower. Madeira appliqué is used to create beautiful pockets on the other side of the purse and bias shaped trim frames a ribbon rosette above the pockets. You will love practicing your tech-niques on this purse and then showing it off when the purse is complete!
